Interdependency

I am eating chocolate

thinking about yesterday’s

minor disagreements

thinking about the moment when

I always break out in tears

still looking for that knowing me

It wasn’t even you I was reacting to

just a voice from the past,

before so long ago

but yesterday

just yesterday

I stood my ground

in frayed

newly worn-in

comfortable boots

knowing you still had something

that I could learn

I reframed it all

in front of us

(this is most completely me)

and when I did

you offered something

beautifully

“Humility,” you said

I sang and danced

inside my skin

with the knowledge

that you and I

so different

would always understand
